Can I use regular running shoes for playing tennis?
Soapie asked:
Tennis shoes and running shoes don’t really look different from each other. Do I need to have a pair of running shoes AND a pair of tennis shoes to be able to be on my school’s varsity tennis team? I know for lacrosse, I needed a pair of running shoes to jog and cleats for actual games and practices. Does that go same for tennis, too?

You need tennis shoes for tennis, not running shoes. Running shoes may mark up the court surface for one thing, and will wear out quickly on hard courts.
Edit: So, once again some dumbbell gives me a thumbs down for my perfectly reasonable answer. We don’t even allow running shoes on our local courts. Others below have also pointed out that they will wear out quickly, and not give the same support as tennis shoes.
Former tennis coach.
I wouldn’t recomend it
I use regular running shoes. I think wasting more money for tennis shoes is a waste, plus, I’d want to save money. My running shoes haven’t messed up on me yet!
In tennis, you move side to side just as much as you move forward and backward. Tennis shoes have side support that running shoes do not have. Running is only a forward motion, there is no need for side support. If you don’t want to twist your ankles, play tennis with tennis shoe.
for tennis you CAN play in running shoes but it often marks the court surface and they wear out real quick. also hurts ur toes and is really bad for your ankles.
Tennis is basically sprinting and stopping. I got a whole in my running shoes when I played tennis with it.
actually, real tennis shoes look so different than running shoes, but Nikes are my favorite for tennis, they are the only ones i use (i have been on the tennis team for three years now) you only need one kind of shoes for the tennis team, not two, but you can have more than one pair if you want. you don’t need tennis shoes and I wouldn’t recommend them. there are several great pairs of Nikes, and famous footwear should have some on sale if you are looking for some nice ones, mine are white, with a silver swoosh, outlined in gold, and inside the swoosh are tiny swirls, if that helps. they are awesome, they increased my endurance and speed, if that helps you make a decision, and if you buy two pairs of shoes, you get 50% off one of the pairs
good luck!
They will wear out very quickly.
